The theme of this years outdoor exhibition is 'New Beginnings'. I wanted the focal point for my piece to be an egg to represent rebirth, new life. I didn't want the egg to be just a birds egg and wanted to find something interesting to me. I therefore chose a Microraptor, baby dinosaur breaking out of its egg. I wanted to show the mother circling above in a protective way but also so I could show the wonderfully coloured feathers I imaginged this creature may have had.
I wanted the landscape to be cracked and baron but with the shoots of new life breaking through, the hint of water that life could form from. I liked the idea of having a sunrise on the horizon which fades into the outer edges of space. I painted a new star being born, bursting into life with Mars shown as this to me presents possibilities of new beginnings for the future of civilisation. I painted earth in the distance as I wanted the overall scene to be a view from another planet that the life that may have started on earth could start again in another environment with different outcomes and possibilities.
The exhibition is due to open on 20th June 2021 with artwork shown all around the Haverfordwest area up until 4th September 2021. All artwork exhibited will be available to buy from the BreakOut Exhibition.
